Live and Love Halal was founded to fill a major nutrition gap for Muslim students on college campuses. After leaving war-torn Afghanistan, the Mashriqi brothers learned halal cooking from the family’s extensive empire of halal food carts and restaurants in New York City and brought the concept with them to California.
The idea for LLH was sparked by the brothers’ own difficulty finding Islam-sanctioned food on their college campus. They identified halal-prepared food as a major opportunity. They also identified food trucks as an innovative, highly visible way to prepare and serve fresh-cooked food fast.
Not too long ago, food trucks were primarily associated with state fairs and office coffee breaks. In 2009, we established the first permanent mobile food truck/trailer on the UC Davis campus. This novel dining experience changed the college food service landscape forever.
We all know how popular food trucks have become – they’re everywhere!
Today we are proud to offer fresh, healthy, internationally inspired halal cooking at student-budget-friendly prices.
We’re delighted to serve those with dietary restrictions and those who just love our food. Some 93% of our customers are non-Muslim.
We have a fleet of food trucks offering everything from Mediterranean classics to
Mexican, Chinese, Italian, burgers – even boba tea and sushi. Any food can be
made halal. Just add love. And we’re not just food trucks, either. We have permanent storefronts in dining halls and student centers on campuses too!
